Pairing Beer and Food

E-mail Print PDF

Ever had a great meal that just did not turn out quite right?  Was it the spice?  Wrong kind of bread? Poor appetizer choice? Or could it have been your beer selection?  Ever wonder why Mexican food just doesn't go very well with Mexican beer?  There is a new emerging segment of the craft beer industry that focuses on pairing beer with food.  The argument is even made in many cases that beer is more versatile than wine, and as such offers a much wider variety of pairing options.

A great place to start is with the Brewers Association's Guide to Beer and Food pairings.  This simple quick reference makes it easy select the beer you want for your meal, or even pick a meal based upon the beer you have.

He Said Beer, She Said Wine compares and contrasts the differences between a selection of beer or wine with your meal.

The Brewmaster's Table by Garrett Oliver of the Brooklyn Brewery is another great resource.  It provides detailed information about a variety of beers, and explains the specific reasons why they pair well with different foods.
